My pain started when I woke one morning with a crick in my neck which I then had for approx two days.
The pain then seemed to work its way into my forearm which I then had constantly for the past nearly 5 months now & I decided to go to my GP to have it checked out & she suggested I have a Nerve Conduction Study test done.
My GP said she would organise this which she did but a couple of weeks later I had a letter from Tallaght Hospital saying I was out of the catchment area to have the test done @ this Hospital and advised me to contact my GP to refer me to St.James’s Hospital.

I in turn then rang my GP who couldn’t understand why my referral ended up in Tallaght Hospital in the first place so as I was looking at the probability of having to wait four to 6 months to have this test done going public I decided I couldn’t wait that long as I was in agony with the constant pain so I went down the Private route.
Firstly I paid €200 to see a Consultant who then referred me for a C Spine X-ray & an Ultra Sound Scan on my arm at a cost of another €200 which both came back clear but as thankful as I was for that I was still in constant pain.
So the next step was the Nerve Conduction Study which was at a cost of €169 & had I known what I was going to be subjected to I would never had gone for this test the electric shocks I experienced in my arm were so intense not to mention uncomfortable.
When I passed this remark to the Doctor conducting the test she replied back to me ok I won’t go any higher than 10!!
Then after the electric shocks were finished & I thought it couldn’t get any worse the Doctor then took this needle and proceeded to stick it in the muscles in my arm & several other areas on my arm as I’m Insulin Dependant Diabetic & inject myself twice a day I don’t have a problem with needles but when the Doctor stuck the needle in the Thenar Space the webbing part of the skin between the Thumb & Index finger at this stage I had a nausea feeling & thought I was going to pass out!
I managed somehow to not to pass out & at the end of this horrible test the Doctor calmly told me she couldn’t find any trapped nerves in my arm to which I replied where does that leave me as I’m in constant pain to which she replied the next step is most likely an MRI.
I left the hospital on the Friday afternoon in agony & totally deflated that I’ve spent all this money and I’m still in constant pain & no one seemed to have any answers as to what was wrong with me or more importantly how the problem could me fixed.
The following day which was Saturday I couldn’t move my neck somehow I think the Nerve Conduction Study was to blame for this & the pain in my arm also seemed to have worsened .
By the Tuesday of the following week I could no longer stick the pain so my sister suggested I go see a Chiropractor Niall Tilley @ Back to Health she contacted Niall who I then spoke with & he kindly agreed to fit me in for an appointment the very next day.
My sister had an accident in 2010 & was X-rayed in Hospital & discharged the next day & told to rest for 48hrs again she was in constant pain and after 7 weeks of agony my cousin recommended she go see Dr. Niall Tilley @ Back To Health.
And the minute Dr. Niall saw my sister walk in & on examination he knew something wasn’t right so he referred her for an X-ray which showed her pelvis was fractured in 3 places and that went undiagnosed in a Hospital for 7 weeks.
Anyway back to my story I went for my appointment with Dr. Niall and at last I found someone was prepared to listen to me and give some answers as to the pain I was experiencing in my arm.
Dr.Niall looked at my X-rays I’d had done @ the Hospital and as soon he looked at them he informed me the problem in my arm was arising form my neck to which the hospital said my X-rays were clear!
So Dr.Niall started to work on me and the very next day there was a remarkable improvement in my neck he did advise me however if I was feeling any pain to use cold instead of heat which I found great as normally I would have used heat which in turn was only aggravating the pain.
I’m still attending Back To Health at the moment & I’m delighted to say my arm is starting to show improvement I just wish I had gone down this route in the beginning instead of going to Hospital to be subjected to unnecessary & painful tests not to mention the expense!
I would highly recommend anyone experiencing pain like mine to go to Back To Health & see Dr. Niall Tilley before heading down the long & stressful Hospital route.
