New Mexico Pass House Bill 127 on Chiropractic prescription rights
In New Mexico the state government has passed a bill to allow Chiropractors limited prescription privileges. This is a state wide effort to deal with a shortage of Primary Healthcare Physicians. The board have recognised that Chiropractors have an almost identical collegiate training programme to that of medical practitioners, so therefore it makes practical and financial sense to extend prescription privileges to Chiropractors to deal with this shortage.
Joint comitee recognises Chiropractors as Physicians
The Joint Commission, the largest credentialling body for hospitals and health care organizations in North America, has recently changed its stance on the recognition of Chiropractors. This organization now recognizes chiropractors as physicians.¹-² This is a major policy change from decades ago, when the commission published an article entitled “The Right and Duty of Hospitals to Exclude Doctors of Chiropractic.”
